Committees

Associates Liaison… keeps Associate Members informed of all Club activities. Offers activities to keep Associate Members connected with each other and involved in the Club.

Benefit… Manages the all-Club fundraising event to raise money for the Club’s primary philanthropy. This is typically a Saturday afternoon event in late winter/early spring. A Managing Chairperson will be responsible for coordinating and supporting the efforts of all the Benefit Chairs and will serve as a liaison to the Executive Board.  

Raffle Coordinates all aspect of the raffle and auction items. Works closely with the Underwriting Chairperson.
Underwriting Coordinates solicitation of sponsorships and donations for the event. Works closely with the Raffle Chairperson.

Communications... this committee coordinates internal and external communications for the Club. A Managing Chairperson will be responsible for coordinating and supporting the efforts of all the Communications Chairs and will serve as a liaison to the Executive Board.   They are responsible for the creation and distribution of the member direcotry, website, scrapbook, TEMPO, and all public relations for HJWC activities.

Community Affairs… keeps the Club informed of key community events and supports local community activities, with a special focus on safety-related causes. This committee hosts an appreciation event for local police officers/firefighters and coordinates any Club activities for the Fourth of July parade.

Cookbook… will develop a new HJWC Cookbook, which will be professionally designed and published for resale to the general public to support general membership projects and activities. This committee will work with general membership to obtain recipes, work with the publisher to develop and print the book, and then market the cookbook to the general public.

Education… keeps Club members current in community education issues, notifies Club members of local educational opportunities and supports local schools, libraries and children.

Fine Arts… promotes activities in the areas of art, literature, drama and music and informs the Club of museum, theater and concert events.

Future Planning… addresses issues pertaining to the direction of the club, proposes guidelines, and makes recommendations on current or future issues to the Executive Board. The purpose of Future Planning is to guide the future plans of the club-at-large.

Health… offers information to Club members on relevant health issues, including medicine/illnesses, nutrition and exercise.

Home Life… is responsible for projects concerning consumer education and family issues. Also organizes the annual HJWC Halloween Party for members and their children.

Hospitality… offers assistance for Club members in need. This is especially helpful to new mothers and people suffering from illness.

Nominating… reviews the membership status and compiles a list of eligible members for the election of Executive Board positions and manages the election process.

Philanthropy… acts as the liaison between the Club and the chosen philanthropy. Provides service project ideas and approves all service projects. In addition, they research and select a list of possible philanthropic projects and recipients and present them to the Board. The Board then narrows this list to 3 philanthropies which are presented to the general membership for final selection as the Club’s philanthropy. This process is completed every two years.

Program… coordinates all of the arrangements for general meetings, including speakers and special programs.

Social… organizes social outings and events for Club members. Such events may include playgroups or outings with children, couples golf outing, tennis tournament and a couples mixer. Attendance at these events would be voluntary.

TLC Camp… supports the Lombard Junior Woman’s Club and the Chicago Candlelighters (a support group for parents of children with cancer) in their effort to hold a one-week day camp for children with cancer. Our Club helps provide food and assists in serving a Taco lunch to 200 campers and counselors.

New Member Advisor… develops the New Member Program which provides a structured opportunity for all new members to learn about the Club. This committee’s focus is to create fun and socialization for all new members so that they may get to know one another as well as current members of HJWC and those on their committees.
