What is Hinsdale Junior Women’s Club?

Hinsdale Junior Woman’s Club (HJWC) was founded in 1949, making this our 70th year. HJWC members are local leaders of volunteer and philanthropic service and have earned tremendous recognition from the GFWC and IFWC throughout the years. In 2006, HJWC was the recipient of numerous awards at the GFWC Convention, and our organization is continuously recognized for outstanding children’s programs, leadership, membership and fundraising.

What are membership requirements?

Each member is required to do 3 hours of service. Our philanthropy committee, does an amazing job of identifying and coordinating opportunities throughout the year, so it is easy to find one that fits your schedule!

We ask that new members attend 50 percent of our general meetings (once a month, generally the second Tuesday) and committee meetings.

How often does HJWC meet?

Our general meetings are once a month and our committees meet independent of the general meeting. Committee co-chairs do their best to identify times when the majority of the committee can meet.

What does HJWC raise money for?

In 2018 The Hinsdale Junior Woman’s Club announced their first major change in its 69-year history. HJWC will no longer vote on one philanthropy to support for a two-year period. The board of directors has proposed, voted on and approved moving to a grant funding model to help even more organizations in need.

Over the last five years, HJWC has raised over one million dollars for deserving organizations. They are excited to launch their new Grant Fundraising model to help fund tangible items for deserving organizations. The change has come as the woman of HJWC have recognized a desire to help even more organizations. Organizations must be a 501C3 to be applicable. $100,000 is the maximum grant allowed under this new model.

How does HJWC raise money?

The club primarily raises month through our benefit, which happens between February and March each year. Our benefit team works to secure underwriting sponsors, auction items and ticket sales, all funds raise go directly to funding our grants. While benefit is a fun evening, the impact of that night is felt for years be deserving organizations.
